Evidence indicates that the intrinsic factor of owning and caring for a cat / pet appears to contribute to the recovery of patients / aged / handicapped or disabled.
Mickey our therapy cat visits the nursing home where I work and is familiar and at ease with wheel chairs and other medical devices.
Seeing eyes light up as wrinkled hands stroke a purring, fluffy body bears testament to the joy a cat can provide.
I train other kittens to be therapy kittens also until they find their new forever home. It takes a special cat to bring so much joy, love and happiness to a person that is normally alone as is shown in the following pictures.
Why a Ragdoll?
- The gentle laid back disposition of the ragdoll makes them ideal as a therapy cat.
- Although long haired the Ragdoll will only need brushing about once a week and the fur is 'oh so soft'.
- Ragdolls are totally indoor cats - making them healthier, less susceptible to parasites and safer from accident.
- Ragdolls can be trained to walk on a harness.
- Thay are friendly and people orientated.
If you require a kitten as a therapy cat please let me know as it will be around walking aids and different people. It will also be bathed a few times and have had it's nail clipped before leaving us. A kitten for this purpose is more expensive as it has had extra attention and training. It will also be a bit older when it can leave us due to this.
